Christmas Party Games Elementary Kids Will Love

Christmas Party Games Elementary Kids Will Love-Puzzles

A Christmas party for elementary school age kids is not complete without those fun and silly parlor games they so love. Read on to get some really enjoyable Christmas party activity ideas, and get your prizes ready and your digital camera too.

Puzzles

The best way to kick off any party is to have an activity that will surely get the elementary school age kids on their feet. In a fill the stocking game, you need to provide stockings, bowls of candies and plastic spoons. Secure each stocking next to each other on the wall at the far end of the room. Divide the children into teams, depending on how many stockings you have, and give each member of the team a plastic spoon. On your cue, the first person of each team should place the tip of the plastic spoon's handle in his or her mouth, and try to scoop a candy in the bowl. With the plastic spoon still in mouth, he or she should rush to the stocking on the wall and place the candy inside. The next person of each team then repeats the same thing. The game ends when the bowls are empty. And the winners will get to take home the candies.

Your kids will definitely find a game of unwrapping gifts really worth a lot of cheering for their teammates. You need empty boxes wrapped in colorful gift wrappers, trash cans, and a bunch kids who can't get to wait to get their hands on the gifts to unwrap them. Pile all the gifts in one corner of the room. Divide the kids into two groups. When you say "go" each team will send a member running to get a gift, unwrap it, and try to shoot the wrapper inside the trash can. If he or she fails to do so, the kid should run back and place it inside, before the next teammate takes a turn at unwrapping a gift.

After a few rounds of tiring parlor games, the elementary school kids might want to play something while just sitting. For this next game, you will need a large tray with a cover, and at least 20 different items that has something to do with Christmas. Arrange the items on the tray, which may include anything from a candy cane, a Christmas tree ornament to a miniature reindeer. Give each team less than a minute to look at and try to remember the items on the tray. Cover the tray and have the kids immediately write down all the items that they can recall. The team with the most number of correct items listed is the winner.

Another less tiring game but just as exciting is a game of word hunt. Hand each team a pencil and a sheet of paper. Write a long word or two on the chalkboard -- anything that's related to Christmas. For instance, if you write the word "North Pole", the elementary age kids should list words from the letters of the word "North Pole". They should find pool, tone, throne, proton, hornet and so forth.

Elementary school kids like to play guessing games. For this game, you will need a small plastic toy sleigh and a blindfold. Have the kids around in a circle, pick someone and have him or her blindfolded. Hand the toy sleigh randomly to anyone of the kids in the circle. The one who has the sleigh calls out to the blindfolded child something like the following:

Santa, your sleigh's gone!
Maybe someone just took it!
Who has it? Who has it?

The blindfolded kid will try to figure out who among his peers has the sleigh. He or she is to be given three chances.

Another game that will surely crack them up is a game of drawing. Hand each one a sheet of paper and pencil. Instruct the elementary age kids to close their eyes as they try to draw each shape that you say aloud. But don't tell them exactly what they are asked to draw. For example, tell them to draw a huge triangle, followed by tiny squares below it. Then ask them to draw little circles scattered inside the triangle, followed by a star shape on top of the triangle. They will surely laugh at what they have drawn the moment you tell them to open their eyes.

Practical Things to Say and Do When Someone Dies

Practical Things to Say and Do When Someone Dies-Puzzles

Keep it Simple

Puzzles

Oh no, a friend I know just died. My heart is on the floor. Tears sting my eyes. What can I do? What can I say? How can I help? The death of a friend or relative puts the brakes on to our busy world. We have an urgent need to "DO SOMETHING----ANYTHING!" We find ourselves wringing our hand, afraid we might cause more hurt. Not knowing how to show our love and concern, we may opt for doing nothing rather than "intruding on their grief." I'd like to share something important with you. Survivors tell me it helps so much to have others reach out to them. Most of them are very glad you cared enough to try.

For over twenty one years, I listened to people share their hurts and frustrations as they journey through the mourning process. I volunteered with Fox Valley Hospice for five years and supported bereaved families as the Bereavement Care Director at Conley Funeral Home in Elburn, Illinois. I looked for ways to help them concretely express their grief. When I followed up on them at regular intervals in the year following the death, the bereaved told me the BEST thing a person can do for someone they care about is simply: BE THERE---period! You don't have to say or do a thing.

Survivors tell me over and over how a hug or heartfelt handshake is remembered more than any words. Even though we know we don't really need to say anything, we still would feel more comfortable if we had a thought or two in our back pocket-just in case. From my reading and experience with "those who have been there" I compiled a list of helpful thoughts. You can also write words similar to these on a card going off in the mail. The thoughts are short and simple. Survivors have so much to think about that many times it is difficult for them to be aware of what is happening around them. It is best to keep comments brief. At the end of the article, there is a list of hints on what not to say. Survivors shared with me that hearing these things from those who came to comfort can actually cause more hurt and confusion. Helping people is one of the things life is all about. So go to your friend with confidence, knowing that your presence will bring comfort, even if your words are not remembered.

WHAT TO SAY

The best advice I ever received when trying to think of something to say when there really wasn't anything to say was, "Simply say what you are feeling." Try to put into words the pain and loss you are feeling your self rather than assuming what the other person is feeling. Let the survivor express his thoughts and feelings to you first. This gives him a sense that you are really listening and trying to understand. After you listen you will have a better understanding of how to respond. The following suggestions can be put in your own words.

o What a tragedy this is for you and your family.
o I heard about what happened and just had to come
o I hate it that this had to happen.
o How terribly hard this must be for all of you.
o I feel so bad about all the suffering (Name) had to go through.
o I was just shocked when I heard the news.
o I can't imagine what you are going through.
o My heart hurts for all of you.
o Tears came to my eyes when I read the obituary.
o I feel just terrible about what happened.
o What an awful loss to our community.
o There's a big hole now in my life.
o The world will never be the same without (Name).
o (Name) had such a great smile, personality etc. I will really miss him/her.
o I enjoyed working together with (Name). He always made the tasks easier, more fun etc.
o (Name) had such a wonderful way of making everyone he met feel special.
o I'm going to miss (Name) so much.
o I remember when...(happy memory here)

WHAT TO DO

Nature provides a wonderful, natural "tool" to help the bereaved get through the first hours and days after the death of someone they love. It's called shock. When our friends are in shock, they find it difficult to think and feel. The day to day necessities of life are difficult to handle. When you are looking for ways to help your friend, be practical. The following list will need to be adapted according to the friendship you have established with the family. You will need to use your own thoughtful discernment regarding the appropriateness of these suggestions.

WHEN YOU FIRST HEAR

Determine whether the family would appreciate a call from you at this time or just a thoughtful little note tucked in their door saying how much the family is in your thoughts since you heard the news. In the note, you can offer several suggestions for helping the family our, such as:

o Washing the cars inside and out.
o Answering the phone.
o Polishing shoes
o Keeping track of children, driving them to lessons etc.
o Gathering information, (flight plans etc.)
o Picking up relatives from the airport
o Grocery shopping or other errands
o Caring for pets
o Bringing over snacks and/or a meal
o Staying at the home to receive gifts of food and/or flowers, recording who they are from

PREPARING FOR VISITATION

GIFTS

o Rather than sending cut flowers to the funeral home, why not send a plant that can be replanted outside to your friends' home?
o Choose a picture frame, figurine or piece of jewelry in memory of the loved one to give to your friend.
o Prisms that make rainbows throughout the room when the sun shines make a lasting gift of hope and beauty.
o Monetary gifts made to the designated memorial funds are greatly appreciated.
o Make up "quiet bags" for the young children. At visitations kids don't have much to do. They don't enjoy talking with relatives. You will be a hero to them and their parents if you provide a little relief. Buy a few inexpensive quiet toys for them to play with during those long hours. (Pad of paper and pencil, a small stuffed animal to hold for comfort, magnetic games or quiet contained puzzles, white boards.
o Make a memory book of blank pages that friends and family can fill in for a valued keep-sake. Ask people you see at visitation or at the luncheon afterwards to write their thoughts and memories. Make a pretty cover for it or use a fun photograph.
o Make a photo album of photos of you and your friend. Everyone appreciates photos of their loved ones.

SERVICES TO OFFER

o Offer to "house sit" during the visitation hours or the funeral where you can answer the phone and door. Keep good messages.
o Offer to coordinate the luncheon.
o Offer to clean up after the luncheon.
o Offer to sit with small children during the funeral at the funeral.
ATTENDING THE VISITATION
o Attend the visitation and offer a warm handshake or a hug.
o Bring a note with special memories and/or attributes of the person who died.
o Don't be afraid to show your own tears. They show the survivors that you care too. Their loved one did not live in vain.
THE FUNERAL OR MEMORIAL SERVICE
o When you help out by taking food, be sure to put your name and phone number on the container. Better yet, send it in a disposable container. (When preparing food, it would be especially thoughtful to consider any of the survivors who may be on a special diet). Also when you prepare food, choose something that will be especially comforting to eat like a hot noodle or potato dish.
o Offer to return food containers to their owners after the luncheon.
o Offer to bring the paper and plastic products for the luncheon after the funeral.
o Offer to bring more chairs if needed.

WHAT NOT TO SAY

When someone dies, the mourners are often confused and hurt. They are experiencing a variety of feelings which make them feel especially vulnerable. It is best to not offer any explanations about the death, assume how they are feeling or even encourage them to look on the bright side. Let them take the lead with these thoughts. What they want most is to be accepted and given the right to express their thoughts and concerns without judgment. In time mourners can usually see past insensitive remarks to the heart behind the words. If you have said any of the following in the past, forgive yourself, knowing that you did the best you could with the knowledge you had at the time. Your intentions came from a heart full of love. That's what really counts. Vow to never say them again.

o It must have been his time. (most survivors are not ready to hear this yet-they are still wanting the person to be alive and with them)
o She lived a good life. (this does not give the survivor the room to have different feelings)
o It must have been God's will. (This comment can cause anger toward God, pointing the blame and causing the survivor to feel guilty for being angry at a loving God.)
o If he wouldn't have been out that late, he would be alive right now. (This comment is blaming the victim and not bringing comfort to the survivors.)
o She wouldn't want you to be so sad. (People hurt when someone dies because they loved him/her. It's natural and healthy to feel sad. None of us like to be told what or what not to feel.)
o When a child dies please don't say, "You're young, you can have more children." (This comment minimizes the death. No child can ever take the place of another.)
o I know just how you feel, my dog died last month. (Most parents will in no way relate to that.)
o At least you have other children. (Again, there's a hole that no child can replace.)
o It's probably for the best. (A survivor is so overwhelmed with feelings of grief, that his comment is usually misunderstood.)
o God must have wanted a baby angel. (Parents cannot understand how God would want their child more than they do)
o I know just how you feel. (Even though you may have had a similar experience, you are not this person. There are multiple factors influencing each individual circumstance and therefore you cannot know how someone else is feeling.)
o Just keep looking for the positives. (A griever usually cannot be at this point in his mourning for many weeks following the death.)
o You just sit there and let me take care of everything. (Making decisions is helpful in the recovery process of grief-let survivors make as many as they can.) NOTE: While giving someone valium may sound like a good idea at the time, the drug or one like it can dull feelings that will still need to be dealt with eventually. It is important to a person's well being that they are active participants with as sharp a mind as possible.

DON'T SAY THE FOLLOWING TO CHILDREN
o Look at how peacefully she is sleeping. (Children take most things literally and may have problems sleeping because they believe that they may die in their sleep.)
o You must take care of your mom/dad now. (This is too much pressure on a child-they need to be themselves and mourn in their own way. No one else can take the place of another. A family needs to work together repairing the broken circle. In healthy grief, families need each other and support one another.
o No, you shouldn't see (Name). It's better to remember them the way they were. (This may be true for some children, but for others they need to see for themselves that the person is really dead otherwise they may continually look for them to come home.
o In the case of suicide, NEVER impose your beliefs or even suggest where their loved ones' soul has gone even if you share the same faith. Suicide is cruel. Support your friend as if he has a broken limb. Don't offer any opinions.

SOME CONCLUDING REMARKS

Unfortunately, grief does not go away in a few weeks. Survivors eventually learn to integrate their loss but find there are special times that trigger the sadness. Some of those times are predictable like holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries. The days surrounding the one year anniversary of the death can be especially difficult. Other times are not so predictable; the first signs of spring or the smell of fall or even seeing someone in a crowd that resembles the loved one can bring on an overwhelming sadness. Being aware of these times especially the first year and possibly the second can be good times for some special attention from you. A phone call, card, flowers or visit are greatly appreciated by the griever.

If your friend is finding it hard to cope with daily activities and is experiencing extreme sleeping and eating patterns over a long period of time could mean that they could benefit from talking with a clergy person or professional counselor who understands the grieving process. Some people find that support groups like, Make Today Count, Survivors of Suicide or Compassionate Friends are especially helpful.

May you go in peace and find that you are a better person because you took the time, energy and courage to reach out.

How to Get Discovered

How to Get Discovered-Justin Bieber Puzzles

Many talented people are trying to be discovered. They have practiced hard, taken lessons, and devoted a lot of time to their art. What is the best way to get discovered for their talent?

Justin Bieber Puzzles

In the old days, the only answer was to perform in public as much as possible. This is easier for a dancer or a singer, but for a photographer or a graphic artist this is not as easy. Today, the best way is probably to join a site dedicated to artistic talents. Many times though, the artist finds that the site is actually there to make money for itself, rather than the artists.

There are various sites for musicians such as Taxi, and Broadjam. These sites require payment for registration, and if you submit an item to answer a particular request, that may cost you as well. There are many photographic sites that encourage you to submit your photos, but does anyone in the industry actually see them? What about writing ? If you write short stories, novels or even poetry, is there a way to get your works out there?

There is a new website called Taltopia that may be the answer for many artists. Artists can register at the site free of charge, unlike many of the others. There are many features to this site including posting your work and having it rated by others. There is also a casting section where you may browse actual requests for certain types of art or music. There is also a contest section, where you can submit photos, music, video and writing, to win prizes. You may also make it to the front page which increases your exposure. In addition to all of this, there is an extensive industry connection list where you will find hundreds of industry statistics like email addresses.

The way to be discovered is in exposure, and the internet is making that easier and more organized. If you are an artist, hopefully one of these sites will bring you to the attention of people that appreciate your talents, especially people in the industry that just might start you on your road to an important career.

How to Make a Baby Boy - Tips to Conceive a Son

How to Make a Baby Boy - Tips to Conceive a Son-Justin Bieber

A surprising number of couples look for ways of influencing the sex of their child. Indeed, when asked, most would prefer a mixture of boys and girls rather than having children of just one sex.

Justin Bieber

For those who already have daughters, many couples will look at how to make a baby boy and there are a number of simple steps you can take to tip the odds in your favor.

Firstly, it is important to understand that a number of factors will influence which gender of sperm will reach the ovum first and fertilize it. It is not simply a case of both types of sperm being identical, other than for their gender and the "winner" being the one which just happens to get there first! Male and female sperm exhibit very different characteristics and and understanding of what these are can help you to make informed choices.

What we do prior to conception, the timing and method of intercourse and what we eat all determine which gender of child we conceive. Usually, we unknowingly tip the odds one way or another and usually this is not an issue. However, if you are wanting to know how to make a baby boy, information is key!

Male sperm are smaller and faster than female sperm. In addition, they do not survive very long compared to the more cumbersome, slower female sperm. male sperm thrives much better in an alkaline rather than acidic environment. Also, our diet is thought to influence the potential sex of our children.

So How Can This Help Us?

1. The Timing Of Intercourse

Knowing that sperm have a very limited lifespan means that the timing of intercourse is crucial. If you are hoping to make a baby boy, you should aim to have intercourse as year to ovulation as possible, and this is where ovulation prediction kits can prove to be very useful indeed. Having intercourse a couple of days before ovulation means that the male sperm will have perished by the time ovulation happens, leaving the longer lasting female sperm ready for fertilization. If you time intercourse to coincide with ovulation as far as possible, the fast male sperm will reach the egg first.

2. The Environment

Male sperm prefer an alkaline environment and it is known that the area around the cervix is alkaline and therefore more friendlier to male sperm. By having intercourse in positions which favor deep penetration, the male sperm are more likely to thrive.

3. Diet

Women who consume at least their recommended daily calorific intake are more likely to make a baby boy. Additionally, foods which are recommended for women wanting to conceive a son include red meats, eggs, raisins, mushrooms, beans and bread. Also, eating saltier foods seems to favor the conception of a boy.

Funny Freestyle Rap Lyrics - Best to Improve Your Freestyle Raps

Funny Freestyle Rap Lyrics - Best to Improve Your Freestyle Raps-Justin Bieber

Funny freestyle rap lyrics are the bread and butter of pretty much every successful rap MC. Take a second to think about your favorite freestyles you have heard over the last few years. Almost certainly most of them will be freestyles that have made you laugh. Every successful MC places a large amount of effort on integrating humorous lyrics into their raps. Perhaps one of the best examples of rapper that has succeeded with the help of humor is Eminem.

Justin Bieber

The reason that funny lyrics dominate in rapping is a simple one - everyone likes to laugh. Take a look at the cinema and you will see that all the top films are either action or comedy. Successful rap songs are no different. The bravado and story telling contained in most tracks provides the action and the lyrical deftness of the likes of Jay Z, Eminem or Biggie Smalls provides the humor.

How can you improve your free-styling?

One of the easiest ways to improve your free-styling is to increase the size of your dictionary. The more words you have tucked away in your long term memory the easier it is to find a rhyme when you might otherwise choke on the mic. Several famous rappers (including the king of freestyle, Supernatural) freely admit to reading a dictionary in their spare time to increase their lyrical scope. In addition there are also specific programs available that can help you develop the areas of you vocabulary that are most used while rapping.

Shake It Up Games for Girls

Shake It Up Games for Girls

A wave of online game sites catering to young female players has taken the gaming universe by storm. Most of the flash based games are centered on activities that girls typically enjoy. It's widely agreed that young girls enjoy playing dress up, pretending to cook, playing house, and pretending to be a mommy. When it comes to games for boys, they usually focus on action and adventure. Many girls today also enjoy these types of games and have found that girl games sites are beginning to shake it up and add exciting, adventurous games specifically made for girls.

A favorite type of game is one where the player can use their keyboard to manipulate their character to dance along with a catchy tune. You can find these dancing games with characters that are from popular kid's shows and classic children's movies. A pretty high level of skill, hand-eye coordination, and familiarity with the keyboard are needed in playing this type of game. Music lovers can shake it up and step along to their favorite tunes. For the younger or novice player, there are beginner friendly dance games that involve the simple use of the arrow direction keys to get the character to dance and score. You can even try your fingers at several different types of dancing like hip hop, ballet, and even the tango!

A few fast paced, adventure games to shake it up are about space, aliens, and science fiction. One example is about the beloved character known as Duck Dodgers. Join him and his trusty sidekick as they traverse the universe and complete their missions. Read the instructions before you begin playing so that you will know which keys stand for different moves, like jumping and dodging. You will have to avoid falling obstacles and laser beams. Stay away from the electric beams as they will electrocute your character. You can move between the floors in the space station through the transport terminals. This game requires a moderate level of skill and patience. It may take a couple of practice runs but you get plenty of chances and lives. After you've successfully completed level one you will be able to go on to four more levels of fun and non-stop action.

Other action games seriously test your reaction times. One of these is about turbocharged penguins. The object of the game is to keep your penguin in the air as long as possible to stay in the game. You must continue to click on the penguin as it ascends and descends to keep it flying in an upwards direction. As the penguin falls in different directions make sure your hand is firmly gripping your mouse and ready to move around quickly. Keep trying and you may even get the chance to have your score recorded on a special scoreboard.

Racing games have long been a favorite of boy and girls, young and old alike. Several popular racing games can be categorized as "rush" games in which the racer has a limited amount of time to reach the finish line. Some of these games give you the options to play racing a motorcycle, skateboard, four-wheeler, or monster truck. One of these "rush" games was especially designed with girls in mind. The scenario is the owner of a beauty salon that has just been ransacked. As the player you must carefully drive a cool pink monster truck through snow, up and down hills, and over steep cliffs, to collect the missing cosmetics. Be careful, the sharp slopes can flip your monster truck right over and you'll only get a limited amount of lives. No doubt, racing games reallyshake it up and get your adrenaline pumping.

Snowy Or Rainy Day Activities For Tweens and Teens

Snowy Or Rainy Day Activities For Tweens and Teens

Picture this. It's a blustery, rainy day with nothing to do, or a snowy winter one where the kids are home from school (and you're home, too!). You're trying to think of some interesting snowy or rainy day activities geared to your tween or teen so that you can spend an enjoyable day together. Meanwhile, your tween or teen may be thrilled because to them it means a day of lazily hanging out on the couch, mindlessly watching tv or a movie while munching chips, or the opportunity to spend the day online or texting with friends incessantly. If you have other plans for them and would like to take advantage of this togetherness to spend some quality time with your tween or teen, then you need to come up with some interesting snowy or rainy day activities that they think will be fun and that won't make them want to roll their eyes at you. Although they may love the opportunity to "plug-in" on a lazy day like this, you can connect with them if you offer up some fun activities that will engage your tween or teen and will get them to want to hang out with you instead. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll even get in a decent conversation or two in the process!

Below are a handful of snowy or rainy day activities for tweens and teens. They can be enjoyed as a family or can be used to pass the time indoors with friends or siblings. These activities are geared to older kids and can be a great source of amusement for both parents and teens alike.

10 Snowy or Rainy Day Activities for Tweens and Teens:

1. Do a jigsaw puzzle. Chances are it's been awhile since you've all sat down and worked on a jigsaw puzzle together, but this can be a great diversion for the whole family, and provides opportunities for meaningful conversation.

2. Play a card game. Gone may be the days of playing "Go Fish" with your kids, but there are many other challenging card games to play with older kids. Engage them in a game of texas hold 'em, gin rummy, or another card game of choice and the time will fly by.

3. Sing karaoke. This may be a completely embarrassing activity for your teen or tween to enjoy when their friends are around (and if you ever sang in front of their friends, they'd surely cringe!), but when hanging out together at home on a rainy day, this can be a great source of fun and laughs.

4. Make a scrapbook. Take the opportunity to go through old pictures and put them into a scrapbook. If you don't have all the materials needed to make and decorate the book, then spend the day organizing and selecting photos to put in the book and enjoy reminiscing about old memories. If you have digital photos, there are some great online digital scrapbooking sites, like Shutterfly, where you can make a beautiful scrapbook, complete with custom pages and journaling, in no time.

5. Make a video together. Plan it out together and record away. Kids are so into videos today that it could be fun to make a family video. You can recreate a talk show and conduct interviews, try your hand at a game show or act out a comedy. Either way, you'll have a chance to get creative and have a memento of your day spent together.

6. Make a house of cards. Remember the days when your kids could be entertained for hours with blocks or legos? Well, they may not be willing to break out the blocks these days, but the challenge of trying to build a house of cards could certainly bring out the architect in any teen.

7. Devise a mystery sound game. See how keen everyone's sense of hearing is by having one person or group go around the house and record various sounds heard around the house. This can easily be done even with a cell phone if you don't have a tape recorder. Then try to guess what the sounds are.

8. Have a dance party. Let loose and get some exercise, too! Take turns choosing music to dance to so you can both enjoy each other's selections and maybe teach each other a few moves in the process.

9. Play challenging word, number, or trivia games. Games like Rummikub, Scrabble, Upwords, Trivial Pursuit and more are always fun to revisit, so if you have a few games lying around the house, dust them off and challenge each other to a game or two.

10. Plan a meal with items from the pantry. Get creative together and put everyone's cooking skills to the test. Older kids love to eat and can have a great time trying to concoct a new recipe based on what's available in the pantry or fridge. And you'll get out of having to figure out what's for dinner!

These snowy or rainy day activities can be a great way to spend a memorable day indoors with your tween or teen. Hopefully you'll have so much fun that you'll all be looking forward to the next time you're stuck in the house due to a rainy or snowy day!

Creating Learning Centers for Preschoolers

Creating Learning Centers for Preschoolers

Many early childhood preschool classrooms are set up in a very particular way. Learning centers or corners are areas in the room that represent a particular component of the curriculum. There are many different types of learning centers and to keep children interested these should be changed and even rotated periodically. Here are some ideas for learning centers. If you only have space for 2 or 3 centers then just change them around periodically. This will keep the children very interested in exploring new centers. These can even be created in the child's home with some creativity on the parents' part.

These special learning centers are important for so many developmental reasons as you will read below but the best part is that during free play time the children can feel independent and will have something fun to do. They will gravitate to an area of interest for them. Some kids love science while others may love the pretend play area and yet others may feel musically inclined on a given day. Another child may just want to curl up with a pillow and a favorite book. As teachers of preschoolers it is reassuring to know that the children are busy and safe while you tend to a sick child, feed a baby or do some necessary paperwork.

Free play time is invaluable to children. It allows them freedom of choice and independence. They can interact with their peers and verbalize and express themselves - say what they are thinking and feeling. They learn to compromise and negotiate and gain a respect for the ideas of others. They also take on roles of follower and leader. Socialization does not just come naturally to children - they must practice it over and over and learning centers are the best place to do just that!

Using all of these interest areas in your weekly or monthly them creates what is called a 'whole language' experience. On the preschool level it simply means integrating literacy into other areas of the curriculum, especially math, science, and social studies. For example if your theme is "Apples' you can have something related to apples in several of the centers. In Science Corner you can have apple seeds glued to an index card and labeled or a basket with 4 different varieties of apples to compare; in math corner there can be more apple seeds to count or a basket of fresh apples that will be used for snack or a baking project after counting and making groups with first; in the Art Center you can have red paint and apples cut in half to make star-print paintings or make apple prints with an apple shaped cookie cutter; in Reading Corner you can read the story of Johnny Appleseed, Snow White or How Apple Trees Grow, etc...

Science Corner:

This area is ever-changing with the seasons. You can fill this learning center with an unending variety of things related to science and nature. Books related to weather, insects, seasons, flowers and plants, seeds, animals, rocks, age-appropriate experiments, etc... are important in this center. Small containers and jars to hold collections of items that the children may find outside should be available for things like rocks, leaves, pinecones, seeds, flowers and plants, some stuffed animals, ladybugs and other insects (real or rubber toys). Tools such as magnifying glasses, binoculars, eye-droppers, microscopes and kaleidoscopes, mirrors and magnets, as well as paper and pencils help children explore.

If you have space some real plants or live pets might be included such as a butterfly garden in springtime or a real lizard or hamster. As you change themes you can change items each month or week. Surprising the children is most fun in this area - for instance they can suddenly discover a new pet goldfish or a bowl filled with dirt and real worms or a Ziploc bag filled with ice cubes! This is the real curiosity corner!

Math Corner:

This corner could be combined with the Science Corner or remain separate. Some things to include would be calculators, large numbers to finger trace, rulers, tape measures, coins, beads or plastic chips (like poker chips) to count (be careful of toddlers trying to put them in their mouths), small scales, plastic measuring cups and spoons, and things to weigh. Counting books and paper and pencils and child-safe scissors again are important for children to use as they wish.

Housekeeping or Dress-Up Corner:

Children will spend much of their free time playing in this center. This is where they practice and pretend to be whatever they want to be. Play-acting and role-playing are a very important part of child's play. Here children practice their social skills and "try on" a variety of different roles that help them make sense of their world. This will be your largest center and will need lots of props. Some of the larger items may be a child-sized table and chair set, a pretend kitchen with dishes, pots and pans, a shopping cart and toy cash register with play money, a baby stroller, dolls, a tool workshop, mirrors, telephones, and such. Dress-up clothing can include anything from commercially purchased costumes of community helpers to homemade items such as aprons, all types of hats, shoes and props. Children love to play with real life size props just as much as children's pretend ones so mixing it up will work great. Thrift stores and second-hand clothing shops are filled with all kinds of wonderful items to add to your housekeeping corner. Ask for donations from parents as well as check out the local yard sales for bargains.

Art Center:

Art for Preschoolers allows for expression of artistic creativity. This center can be very colorful and bright, filled with art work, color posters and art supplies. Some items to include and rotate out are a variety of paper (construction, tracing, newsprint, scraps, etc.), markers, children's scissors, crayons, water paint sets, glue, popsicle sticks, glitter, an Easel, art smocks (or old adult sized T-shirts) to protect clothing, water cups and paint brushes. A fun thing to have in the art center is a basket or shoe box filled with a variety of collage materials that the children can use anytime to create or add-on to their creations. Some items to include are feathers, pom-poms, old buttons and beads, rick-rack, streamers, foil, wax paper, pieces of fabric, toilet paper tubes, pipe cleaners, tissue paper, coffee filters, strings and ribbons, color samples from the paint store, etc. Not all supplies should be accessible to the children as some require supervision but the basics should be there for free-art activities.

Manipulative Center (or Block Corner):

This area is important for building small or fine motor skills and should includes blocks, games, puzzles and things that children need to use their fingers with. Learn-to-dress boards that have zippers, shoelaces, buttons and snaps are great as well as items of clothing with this type of closure. Include lacing cards and all sizes of beads or pasta noodles like ziti to string.

Music Corner or Center:

This is a fun corner too! You can fill it with all kinds of toy band instruments such as drums, horns, maracas, keyboards, flutes, whistles, xylophones, band leader hats and batons and more. Children love to explore rhythm and sounds and although it may just sound like noise it does teach and serve a purpose. Rhythm is a difficult skill to master and helps build coordination. In this corner you can also have a CD player with a microphone and a library of music the children can sing and dance to or just listen to during an art activity.

Reading Corner:

(This one is my favorite!) This is the area where your treasured books are. Children that are exposed to books at an early age become readers for life. You can build a very nice preschool library over time. Scholastic Book Clubs has a club just for preschoolers so you could sign up for that online and get free books from each order you place. How it works: You give each family a monthly flyer and they order books through your club. You can place the group order online or mail it in. Each month Scholastic will give you free books that you earn from your groups order. They also offer very inexpensive books as low as . Scholastic has books for every theme in your preschool curriculum. You can find books at yard sales, eBay, thrift shops and library sales. Always check the clearance center at your local bookstore too. Some other props to place in this area might be a rocking chair and some floor pillows and be sure that it is well-lit. A recording device and a flannel board are great tools for storytelling and re-telling. Asking children to re-tell a story is a great way to build literacy skills such as sequencing, memory and detail observation. You can bring props in from other corners to highlight a story you are reading. For example: use a mirror, a witch hat and an apple when reading 'Snow White.

So, as you see this is a great way to create a fun learning environment for preschoolers. It can be ever-changing to reflect your themes, the seasons or holidays as well as everyday play. Have fun creating your own curiosity corners!

Oktoberfest Party Games - Raise Your Glasses, Everyone!

Oktoberfest Party Games - Raise Your Glasses, Everyone!

Oktoberfest is known internationally for its beer, food and frivolity. To get into the spirit, there's absolutely no reason why you can't bring a little bit of Germany to your abode and host an Oktoberfest party. Games like those below will be sure to raise a few laughs and liven up the occasion.

"Beer Jug Relay" Oktoberfest Party Game

This Oktoberfest party game is a great one for when everyone has partaken in a few ales! It needs to be played outside, as it could involve getting wet if you're not careful. All that's needed for this game is 4 large buckets, 2 beer jugs and a fairly long area in which to play the game. Before the game, fill 2 of the buckets and place them side by side at the starting line, and place the 2 empty buckets side by side at the finish line. Players split into two even teams and line up, with the person at the head of each line receiving a beer jug. The object of the game is for players to fill their team's bucket at the finish line, by taking turns to transfer the "beer" from one bucket to the other. The trick is, each player must do this by filling the jug and balancing it on the palm of their hand as they walk down. The first team to transfer all their "beer" is the winner of this Oktoberfest party game.

"A what?" Oktoberfest Party Game

This is also a great game for when festivities are well underway. After a couple of beers, guests won't know their "whits" from their "whats". All that's needed for this game is 2 small objects, for example a knife and a fork. Guests sit in a circle, and the two objects are given out randomly. The game starts by one of the players holding an object passing it to the person on their right, saying "This is a whit". The person on the right replies "A what?" to which the first player responds "A whit". This question-and-answer routine continues halfway around the circle, at which point the second object - a "watt" - is added to the circle and sent around in the opposite direction. Anyone who confuses their "whits" with their "watts" or their "whats" must leave the circle. The last 2 players left are the winners of this hilarious Oktoberfest party game.

Are Crossword Puzzles Enough to Boost Your Brain Power?

Are Crossword Puzzles Enough to Boost Your Brain Power?

You may have heard that solving crossword puzzles daily is a great way to strengthen your brain cells. It is sure to be helpful. But scientists have also learned that the brain needs new experiences to be at its best. Merely doing the same thing over and over is not as effective as you might think.

Sharpbrains.com is a research and advisory firm dedicated to helping individuals, companies and health providers stay on top of the latest research in brain fitness. Their site gives this noteworthy advice:

"The point of having a brain is precisely to learn and to adapt to challenging new environments. Once new neurons appear in your brain, where they stay in your brain and how long they survive depends on how you use them. 'Use It or Lose It' does not mean 'do crossword puzzle number 1,234,567.' It means, 'challenge your brain often with fundamentally new activities.'"

The well-known seniors' organization, formerly known as the Association for the Advancement of Retired Persons, quotes Dr. Lawrence Katz of Duke University Medical Center. He believes that when we go through the same routines day after day, the brain activity required to do these tasks actually decreases. But when we engage in new activities, or even changes in our routines, we are triggering parts of the brain that weren't used before. This creates "enhanced activity in the brain."

RevolutionHealth.com has compiled a list of recommendations from neuroscientists on the best activities to boost our brain health. Among the recommendations: activities should teach you something new, they should be challenging, they should be progressively more difficult, and they should be rewarding.

So how do crossword puzzles fit in? If you are doing crossword puzzles that are increasingly difficult and if you find it rewarding, your pastime may be beneficial. But if you are repeatedly solving "Easy Crosswords" from the newsstand and you find it to be tedious, the benefit may be limited.

What should you do if you really love word puzzles, but you want more brain stimulation than you're receiving from your crosswords? Try something new! Try other clue-based and wordplay puzzles. Try logic puzzles. Try number puzzles. Try anything that is fun, challenging and new.

Ready to Print Crossword Puzzles - Perfect for Anytime, Anywhere

Ready to Print Crossword Puzzles - Perfect for Anytime, Anywhere

Online crossword puzzles are fun, but sometimes you just can't beat print crossword puzzles. Why? Here are three quick reasons:

1. Break away! The most obvious advantage of print crossword puzzles is that you don't have to be at your computer to solve them. You can print them out, tuck them into your briefcase and pull them later while you're on coffee break. Or you can take them to the beach. Some folks even like to keep a few in the glove box of their car for times when they're caught waiting to see the doctor or meet a friend.

2. Use a pencil, save a mouse, save your wrist. If you already spend a lot of time at the computer during the work day, your hand and wrist will thank you for taking a break on your off-hours. Using paper and pencil won't contribute to the repetitive motion problems caused from using a computer mouse for hours on end. As you solve a crossword puzzle with paper and pencil, you're using your fingers, hand and arm -- and even your eyes and neck -- in a different way.  Your body gets a much-needed break from the same old movements.

3. Print on demand. Crossword puzzle magazines are great. In fact, I usually have two or three by my favorite chair in the living room. But such magazines often contain pages and pages of crosswords that are too easy, too hard or include topics that aren't of interest. When you print your own puzzles, you can get only the ones you're most interested in. With the wealth of websites that offer printable crosswords, you're sure to find the difficulty level and the topics you like.

How to Change Your Facebook Layout

How to Change Your Facebook Layout

How is it that some people are just OK with the standard appearance of many if not all social networks? I mean, OK, it's not for me to judge of course, but the standard appearance of many of these sites is a bit of a turnoff. It's a bit bland and dull and, in my opinion (and I daresay in the opinion of many others too).

Especially Facebook. Now like I said, there's nothing really wrong with it, except for the fact that it's a little too plain for my liking. The whole thing works fine, sure-especially the fact that all my friends are on Facebook and that when we all login together we have so much fun, it's just like we're all together and all that. It's a great site. But what I can't stand about it is, there's so little just about anyone can do standard with it to fix up its appearance.

It's just the basic stuff that you can change, really. Which means to say that all you can fix up is your picture-and that's about it. Which I guess is not so bad for people who don't really feel like they need to have a social network that shows off their character and taste and style and all that. But what about those who DO want to stand out and completely hate the fact that their Facebook accounts look just like their worst enemy's?

This is where FaceTheme comes in! OK, it's not perfect, especially for people like me who really want to be able to use really hot fonts and that sort of thing. But what it will do is let you touch up your site a little so it'll look just like you've put up either one of the standard themes-or a background picture all of your own with colors you yourself choose. How cool is that?

It's pretty simple tech, you don't have to have a degree in web design or whatever to use FaceTheme. And it won't even require you to mess with your Facebook itself. You just have to pick the theme you like, if you want to go with a standard theme. A fan of, say, Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber, and you want to fix up your Facebook so it's got Gaga's or Bieber's pic on it from the great concert you went to last weekend? Easy as pie. Just head to FaceTheme, search for the exact standard theme you want, and click 'install'. Then go to your Facebook page to see the results. That's it!

Of course, if in the future you want to change the theme or even delete it, that's easy too. Just pick a new theme the very same way you picked the first one. Or, if you want to go back to your standard Facebook layout, click the 'uninstall' button and that'll do it for you.

But what if you're like me and lots of other people around and you really want to put up your own theme? Put pictures of yourself in it, or your dog or cat or friends or goldfish even, if that's what works for you. Or choose the colors you yourself want, instead of just that flat old boring blue that you're stuck with? Then try not to jump up and down because FaceTheme will let you make your own very special theme! The Custom Theme Creator feature is what FaceTheme calls it and it works like a charm. Just hit the Custom Theme Creator link on the FaceTheme page and you're off to the super special theme creator page. Choose ANY and EVERY color you want! Upload any pic you want (hey, just nothing you'd be ashamed to show your mom, OK? And of course make sure you can use it for purposes like that) and arrange it however you like. And when you're done with fixing up your FaceTheme theme, hit the 'preview' button to check it out and then the 'finish' button once it's done.

And there you have it! You can fix up a theme that ONLY YOU can have and be really super proud of. No worries about having a Facebook account that looks just like your creepy neighbor's or whoever's. FaceTheme can help you with that fast and easy!

Use Jigsaw Puzzles to Prepare Your Child for Reading

Use Jigsaw Puzzles to Prepare Your Child for Reading

Do you want to help your child develop those all important pre-reading skills? You can do that by doing jigsaw puzzles together. Puzzles help develop vital thinking processes that need to be developed before reading can take place.

Babies learn to recognize things by their shape. The position of the object is not important. A cup is a cup, whether it is standing upright, lying in it's side or upside down; it is still a cup. A jigsaw puzzle introduces the concept that position is important. More refined recognition skills are developed.

There are valuable learning experiences that can be gained from puzzle activities. Firstly hand-eye co-ordination is necessary to manipulate the piece into the correct position. To fit the piece exactly involves observing the shape of the hole as well as the shape of the puzzle piece. At first a young child deals with the problem by trial and error and sometimes force. The guidance and example of a parent begins to solidify the process. The youngster starts to develop spatial awareness and mental manipulation as well as increasing physical dexterity. Skill and ability develops as the child learns to place the piece in correctly and internalization of the process occurs.

The role of the parent is very important. Talking about the picture and demonstrating the correct method to complete it, will facilitate the child's learning process. This creates a great opportunity to increase your little one's vocabulary, as well as increase the recognition of objects and situations outside the child's immediate world.

Early childhood puzzles can be purchased in varying degrees of difficulty as your youngster's spatial and reasoning skills become more developed. Children learn to recognize color and shape by playing. Adult conversation increases the potential of the young learner's understanding and development. The green shape only fits in the green hole. This type of matching activity develops early reading skills.

When introducing a new puzzle spend time doing it together at first. Make this a happy social time and lots of fun. Do a puzzle long enough to maintain interest and attention, but be ready to move on to another activity as focus begins to wane. Eventually children will want to do puzzles by themselves as their dexterity and confidence increases, With praise and encouragement children will practice until the skills become familiar. Then is the time to introduce puzzles with a greater challenge.

In this technical age do not forget the simple jigsaw puzzle. The benefits and educational value of doing puzzles with your children far out weigh the small amount of time and money a parent invests in this great learning tool.

3 Tips for Meeting Younger Girls on Online Dating Sites

3 Tips for Meeting Younger Girls on Online Dating Sites

Meeting women online is the goal of all men who join up with online dating sites. Except, of course, for dating sites that cater to gay men. Some guys are okay with meeting women online in their own age bracket, while others have a thing for girls younger than them, or indeed for cougars who like younger men.

Let's assume you are an older man looking to hook up with a younger woman. And although we won't specify any particular age differences (as the possible combinations are wide and varied), let's just say the age gap between you and the women you are looking to meet on dating sites is significant (10+ years).

Tip No. 1 for meeting younger girls online is - don't try and be cool and hip. Older guys pretending to be young when their whole image and persona is something else just come across as phoney. If you are an old dude who in reality rocks out to Barry Manilowe or Elvis, any attempts you make to be a Justin Bieber fan will be detected as baloney by even the blondest of blonds.

In other words, be yourself and act your age. You will not only earn more respect and props for being honest and open, younger girls sometimes are actually attracted to older men living in their own personal time warps. Indeed, look at the popularity of some of the modern singers, for example Adelle, who tend to perform music that harks back to a previous age. All of the techno stuff leaves them cold. And gentlemen, there are plenty of "retro" chicks out there on Internet dating sites with profiles attesting to their love of yesteryear. If you are stuck in the '60s but want to meet a younger girl born in the '80s or '90s, pay special attention to their likes and dislikes on their dating profiles. If you stick to the bigger Internet dating services, there will be so many younger women seeking mature guys like you, that you will be amazed.

Tip No. 2 for meeting younger women on dating sites is to make an effort to look good. Okay, she wants to meet older men, but that doesn't mean she wants a man that looks old. Younger girls are fit and healthy, and they want you to be able to keep up with them physically. Of course, there are the exceptions (BBWs, geeks and nerdy girls who are forever in the library), but odds are you as an older guy are looking for a young female companion exactly because she exudes that energy of youth. You, in turn, must make every effort to look your best and be as fit as you possibly can, age allowing. Pick up some dumbbells, and get toned. You don't have to be rippling with a six-pack, but get rid of any extra flabbiness and your success rate will definitely increase.

Tip No. 3 for older guys looking to hook up with a younger girl online is to avoid mentioning anything about your financial situation - at least at the beginning. You want to make sure any potential internet partners you might meet are not interested in you just for the money. Okay, for some desperate guys, this may seem like an obvious ploy. Dangle the money carrot, and watch the bites! Only problem is, you may have a beautiful young chick hanging off your arm for a little while, but in the meantime your bank account is dwindling and before you know it she is out of your life. If you are going to use your financial and material resources as assets to attract younger women, just make sure you have some safeguards in place. Otherwise, it could all end in tears and even bankruptcy.

How to Get a Manager - Five Tips For Rappers

How to Get a Manager - Five Tips For Rappers

There is no right or wrong way to go about finding a manager. Sometimes, a manager will approach the performer. Sometime a mutual acquaintance will act as a musical matchmaker and introduce a performer to a manager. But most times it's up to the artist to seek out a manager, whose main function is to facilitate their client's career. For rappers, it's important to find a manager who is hooked into the hip hop music scenes, from clubs to radio stations. Here are five tips for rappers on how to find a manager that will help turning your rhymes and verses into a professional career.

Make a demo. If you have the funds, team up with local musicians to record three of your best raps. You can also make a demo on personal computers. Whichever way you decide, just make sure the CD sounds professional.

Go viral. Post new videos of yourself performing every week. Not only will you expand your fan base, you can use YouTube or your own web site to generate buzz. Justin Bieber was a unknown kid from a small town in Canada who started posting video of himself singing in early 2008. A few months later, a manager contacted him. Bieber signed with the manager, who then helped Bieber get signed to Def Jam Records. So if your music is unique and engaging, the right people will watch.

Set a meeting. Look up managers either online or in the yellow pages. Then prepare a package that includes a demo, a professional looking photograph and a cover letter requesting an in-person meeting. If you have a website, mention it in the cover letter.

Be professional. There are a lot of weekend performers who rap as a hobby. You need to show that you are serious about establishing a career to present yourself as a professional. You can have a unique, singular style and fashion sense and still be well groomed. A manager is all about business so present yourself accordingly.

Ask your peers. Use your social networks to ask for introductions or suggestions spread the word that you're looking for a manager. (Before putting any of your lyrics online, or sending them to anyone, make sure they are copyrighted.)

Dance Fitness Shoes - Choosing a Shoe For Zumba Class

Dance Fitness Shoes - Choosing a Shoe For Zumba Class

One of the most frequently asked questions I get as a Zumba instructor is regarding the type of shoe to wear. Zumba is a cardio exercise class that combines both dancing and fitness moves. A regular dance shoe will not have the shock absorption for the impact of exercise, and an athletic shoe that is strictly for training may not have the lightness and movement capabilities needed for dancing.

The answer is to get a dance-fitness or dance-aerobic shoe. With the increased popularity in dance-fitness classes such as cardio salsa, hip-hop fitness and Zumba, the shoe manufacturers have come out with a great assortment of aerobic type training shoes geared to the dance-fitness enthusiast. These shoes have multi-directional support and very little tread on the sole. They are lightweight and make it easy to pivot and glide across the floor.

When choosing the right shoes for your feet, read the reviews or descriptions online. If you have a wide foot, narrow foot, or high arch, for example, there may be a brand of shoe that is better suited for you. Nike and Ryka brands have a popular selection of dance aerobic shoes to choose from.

Adding a well-cushioned insert to the shoe will make it much more comfortable. Take out the insert that the shoe comes with and place in one that is designed specifically for cross training or aerobics. Replacing the inserts often will extend the life of the shoe itself.

Athletic shoes should be replaced every 3 to 6 months, depending on how much mileage you put on them. When you feel your knees and legs begin to ache after exercise it could mean that it is time to get a new pair of shoes.

In summary, the best shoe for a dance-fitness class is one that is lightweight, supportive and has little tread on the sole. Find one specifically made for dance-fitness or dance aerobics. When you are wearing the right shoes you will have a better exercise experience, you will stick to your exercising and you will have more fun.

Should a Manager Date an Employee?

Should a Manager Date an Employee?

Whether it is against company policy or not, which it is in most organizations, to date an employee, a manager should never do so unless they are prepared to open up a huge can of worms both professionally and personally.

No matter whether your job is blue collar or white collar, you need the respect of the people you supervise. One way to earn respect is to treat all those you are responsible for supervising in a fair and equal manner. Even if you happen to be completely different from the rest of the human race and can treat the person you are dating exactly the same as everyone else in the working environment, the other employees will never see it that way. In this case, the perception is as real and dangerous as the reality. Any time you have to discipline an employee, they will wonder if the person you are dating would have received the same treatment and hold bitterness and resentment about the disciplinary action based on that thinking.

None of the other employees will ever believe that the person you are dating isn't receiving special perks and preferential treatment on the job. Again, this does not have to be true. You can be treating the person you are dating in exactly the same manner you treat everyone else and the majority of your employees will perceive a difference. This is simply human nature and cannot be avoided. If you make the further mistake of announcing that you are not treating the person you're dating any differently from anyone else, you will only amplify the issue. It's truly a lose-lose situation.

Most managers are responsible for writing the evaluations or performance appraisals for those they supervise. If this is the case, it will be more difficult for the manager dating an employee to provide that person with a fair, objective and accurate evaluation. No matter how fair minded you think you are, your evaluation will be colored, even subconsciously, by where you stand in the relationship at the time it is conducted. If, for example, you're in the early stages of your relationship and things are wonderful and exciting, you will be more likely to write glowing comments and appraise the employee's work performance on a higher level than it may actually be.

If you and the person you are dating had a fight or a falling out last week, you will undoubtedly bring that negative baggage into the evaluation room and may unfairly rate the employee lower than deserved. These are things that the person considering dating an employee will swear to themselves they would never do, but we are human before we are managers and human emotions and the irrationality that accompany them have a way of creeping into everything we do.

When a manager dates an employee, they also are crossing a societal line of sorts between management and workers. The employee who is dating the manager will find him or herself ostracized by the other employees because she is seen as consorting with the enemy. No matter how good employee relations are at your particular place of business, management is always, to a certain degree, seen as "them" versus "us." By dating one of your employees, you have effectively taken her out of the "us" category and moved her into the "them" category in the eyes of her coworkers. You have placed her in a limbo of sorts because she is now no longer totally a part of her familiar social group and she is not truly part of yours, either.

On a personal level, you've created a mess for yourself that simply isn't worth it. Consider the performance appraisal or evaluation. Imaging having to go out on a date afterward. Now, the employee didn't just get a negative comment or fail to receive the raise she thought she deserved because of her boss, she got that negative comment or lack of a raise because of YOU. Good luck with that one. You probably won't be getting dessert.

Another pitfall of dating someone with whom you work, let alone someone you supervise, is the fact that you are surrendering the break between your work and personal lives that we all need. You and your partner will inevitably wind up "bringing work home with you" by talking about it. It will be harder for either of you to be objective and supportive of the other when one has had a bad day at work because you're both too close to the situation. Frankly, sometimes you'll just be sick of thinking and talking about work as well, and this will adversely effect your communication with your partner.

As you can see, there are a wide variety of both professional and personal reasons a manager should avoid dating an employee. We spend so much of our lives working these days that it may be more convenient or easier to meet someone at work, but it's well worth the extra effort to try and meet someone for a dating relationship who you aren't responsible for supervising.

What Is On The Other Side Of The Stars?

The Most Absurd Truth... Or Is It?

Little did I know what my endless quest for truth and knowledge would lead me to. It is true what one Japanese Buddhist monk once said, "We must always be disturbed by the truth." Why is that I wonder? Well, looking from my own experience throughout my life, I would have to say it is because of the conditioned mind frame we are born into through different cultures, traditions, or religion in their diverse versions of "truth". Later when faced with a truth that has come only when one has aligned or attuned themselves to a point of further comprehension, truth can be very different than what one once believed was true. In my journey thus far, I have realized that truth seems to be like a puzzle of dimensions. In the expanding process of individual growth, the pieces seem to fit together and layer themselves into deeper and deeper levels.

So what then is truth and where does it begin? Is truth something that humanity creates for itself to run a conducive and obedient society by means of consequence and fear? I do believe in the law of cause and effect, don't get me wrong, but at what cost are we learning our lessons to become better individuals? What lessons are we teaching our children? Are we teaching them to be afraid, obey the laws, or else? Perhaps in the line of evolution such a practice has some value for the process of growth, but can we as humanity move beyond this? Is world peace yet a dream, or is it a deeper level to our existence? Why not teach our children that they are the magnificent creators of their lives? Why not show them the powerful and amazing beings they really are by allowing them to have experience without judgment? What world would we live in if we all took responsibility for the effects of our own actions without putting superiors above ourselves to judge and punish us when we have stepped outside of the boundaries of the established way that things are "said" to be done? Whose laws are these anyway? Are these the laws of men or God?" Perhaps this process is one of the many layers of truth, but what lies beneath? What if we allowed ourselves to realize the possibility that there is more?

What if there is one of you who would wish to reason with your own mind? Reason is the one thing which allows man to act as God unto himself with an inward conscious knowing. "Blasphemy!" you say. "What? Did you say we are not to look to God, but to our own selves for wisdom? How absurd!" you say. Yet what if in looking to ourselves, we are in fact looking to God?

I hear your voices, for they have been my own as well. Yet still I could not ignore the call of my inner voice, and the "reasoning" power of my mind to urge me to ask the question, "Is there more?" The ability to reason raises us above our automated reaction we often project from our emotions, which when deliberately applied, forces us to think before we act, therefore guiding ourselves in a conscious and deliberate way. Reason is the only aspect of man which separates our intelligence from the intelligence of an animal. Therefore God, it would seem has a "reasonable" nature, and we cutting ourselves off from our own reasoning capability, in turn are cutting ourselves off from God.

Perhaps you are one who wishes to step outside of these illusionary boundaries to experience the causes and effects of your life in a conscious and deliberate manner. What if you, taking your deliberate and courageous step forward, dare to think a different thought than you have ever thought before, expanding the possibilities and wonders of life? Do you think this is what would happen, or do you feel your being shrink back in fear? Can you consciously hear the voice that is chattering endlessly from a programmed perception as it immediately warns you to get back into the place where you belong? Is the fear that is bred from your ever protective ego so engrained that you obediently close off once again to a yet unknown flow of intelligence of which you are a part of?

Why is it that every time you attempt to think a new unpracticed thought of something different than you have ever known, that this voice of fear seems to always interfere? What does it have to hide from you? What is it afraid that you will find out? Perhaps the voice of fear is only your programmed ego who is afraid of the extinction of its existence within you once you have realized your true being of power. Yet it is not for us to banish our ego from our beings. Instead, we follow the universal law of inclusion by soothing our emotion with our reasoning mind, joining it one with us, thus creating our feeling of wholeness instead of separation. If you listen carefully, you will hear two voices, one voice emanates from fear, and one comes from a source we all inherently know but have yet to remember. Are you the person that follows along, or do you reason for yourself? Do you dare to challenge the voice of fear, or do you think it is the voice of God that warns you to stop thinking for yourself and go along as you have always been told in blind faith? Jesus said "What doth it profit a man say he hath faith, and not works? (James 2:14)

From personal experience I know that it was not an easy path to trust in my own guidance that came from within after the many years of structured and cultural conditioning from society and religion. Attempting to make a connection to that God for ones own self is seemingly admonished by our so called leaders, yet when one does so it is only accepted if it is done in the structured and said manner of the "Superior" belief system which appears to govern our actions and even our thoughts. When will our thoughts be our own again? What will it be like when we know our every thought is an actual thing being projected, beginning a creation? When will we know that we do not know everything about our world? What will it be like when we find out we are not the most evolved beings which have existed here upon the earth or that there are mysteries within our world that would rifle even the best science fiction story? When will our cynical beliefs we have thought of over and over again be opened up to allow more? Does not all expand? Even in our daily lives do we not see evidence that after time and time again with the same unwanted experience that we evolve into a greater knowledge and understanding from this actual personal experience?

What if you were to have an experience, that you could not imagine or deny, an experience directly between you, God and beings yet unseen or acknowledged by most of the whole of humanity? Would it not seem reasonable to think with our own God given and capable minds that such a thing could be possible if the courage could be summoned by the will of our being to open, expand, and allow ourselves such an thing? Yet warning bells go off immediately to shut the mind from thinking anything which will require a change in our comfortable places. We seem content to live in the miserable beliefs of a world where we are victims of chance and horrible possibilities of disease, fear and death, all of which we are susceptible to if we do not abide by the laws given by man. In this, we have given up our powerful selves. We give it to those that lead us, never daring to question, nor having the slightest inclination to question anything specified. I have found that exact truth is found within ones own being, propelled by a knowing one must come to remember.

We are forewarned of the great danger which lies in unknown places, and counseled to keep our minds protected from such follies that could possibly lead us astray. Such are the cattle which blindly go along in fear of straying from the path, and in their repetition of thought they have brought such things to show evidence that their way is truth, not knowing that they are their own creator of cause and effect. In their conviction they defend and oppress others from walking their own path, admonishing them to think as they think, condemning any that would dare look to their own guidance within as they ask the daring question, "Is there more?" Scoffed are those who have ventured into the unknown world bringing back new wisdom and knowledge. Life replicates life and one day of course like we do now we will look back and understand through our trial and error the truth of what was given. Mostly unknown they walk among us aligning with others who are like them, their truth kept deep and hidden yet free for any who would venture on the quest.

Can you ask yourself if it could be possible to take that first trusting step inward and know that you have a powerful God given power within you to discern and know the light from the dark? Whether you call this power within you the Holy Ghost, your Inner Being,or your Emotional Guidance System, there can be many names. But in knowing that this power is within and a part of who you are is a key to knowing the mysteries and wisdom of the Cosmos. Is it not reasonable to think that the path to greatness must be experienced and achieved by ascending oneself through individual experience? There is not only one path, but many paths that can lead to the goal when one is guided from within, judging and weighing ones own being through the focal point of our connection to that which we are at our deepest core. It is said that one can know all things and be "perfect even as our Father which is in heaven is perfect." (Matt 5: 48) Jesus did not tell us this to stress us out or make us think that we had to live a difficult life filled with guilt and shame in our continual strife to achieve something that one might feel is an impossible goal. He told us this to help us realize who we are, where we came from, why we are here. He wanted to show us our possibility of expansion.

There is only life emanating life, consciousness expanding into further consciousness, all things done in wisdom and order playing its unique part in creation. Thus, life can be the greatest joy and adventure one could ever dream, due only to the way one might choose to view, or "think" of their world, thus creating a vibrational flow, drawing to themselves that which their focus is upon.

There are symbols and clues all around us that help to crack away at the hard shell of our present perception. We have life to experience and observe as we watch nature and the creatures of the earth. Are we so unlike the caterpillar who transforms seemingly magically into a beautiful butterfly? What promoted this transformation? What desire, intention, projection of focus, created a butterfly from a slowly crawling caterpillar? How long did the caterpillar think it had to stay there on the ground because it was just a caterpillar after all, and to dream of someday flying above the plants and flowers, was only yet a dream? Surely if the other insects had had the ability to use a reasoning mind, they would have laughed and scoffed at such a thing. Yet perhaps it is because there was no one there to tell the caterpillar that it could never fly, that it set its powerful intent and went on to create the miracle that we trivially accept without wonder or thought. Are we just seeing with our eyes, yet not truly seeing? What level of truth do we allow ourselves to ponder here?

Perhaps we are like the baby chick who in its shell pushes and strives to break free of its increasingly confining space. How is it the chick senses that there is something "more," outside the comfort of all that it has ever known? Yet surely it would wither and die without further nourishment once its small home had served the purpose it had provided in the cycle of the chick's creation. Even in embryo the small pulsing life was connected to its source of nourishment, instinctively expanding, evolving to point after point of growth where it eventually uses its expanded strength to break free into a world yet unknown.

We standing on the outside know of the newborns evolution and watch for its arrival. We see its struggle, its moments of rest, and then its relentless quest, which finally brings it forth into a new plane of existence. Does one dare to ask the question, "What then is observing us, and our evolution?" We know if we were to pull the shell away from the chick, to help ease its struggle, that it would then be too weak and unprepared for what new experience this new world would bring. We know that even when the little bird has conquered the shell of its previous perception of life, gaining much strength, that yet someday it must also realize its expanded potential and fly.

Do you think the baby bird ever questions its earthly evolution, or does it just know deep within who he is? Does it doubt his ability or compare itself to the other birds? There is no one there to say he cannot do it. There is no one to laugh or condemn, and so never giving up, the little bird tries until it has achieved the thing he knows it is. Expansion seems to be the way of all creation, even the Universe, perhaps even God. "What?" You say again. Another challenging thought perhaps. Most of humanity upon hearing this thought will immediately recoil and pronounce this to be truly absurd...but a reasoning mind will think again and ask the question..."Is it possible?"

Would it not seem reasonable to think with our own God given and capable minds to "reason" for ourselves that all things begin with a thought? We do not seem to use the imagination of which we are capable of to enlighten ourselves any further than our present state. We can only "know" this inner wisdom through our own experience, also receiving validation of it by observing the evidence which comes into material form from the effects which we set up every time we think a thought. Thus is creation brought from the immaterial to the material form. This is our own personal evolution.

It has been said that a belief is just a thought one thinks over and over again until truly it becomes manifest in material reality and from the observation of it by those who witness the effect from a cause created by the thought. And so it seems all things come back again to the original thought. A wondrous thing this is to unravel for it seems to be the key of wisdom to the truth of all creation. We then are creators are we not? For we are beings capable of deliberate and focused thought. We are told in many places in the Bible that we are Gods. "Ye are God's; and all of you are children of the most High." (Psalms 82:6)

I do not think it is blasphemy to allow ourselves to rise up from our graveling place like unto the caterpillar, to step forth from the veil of darkness into the light of truth. Was this not how all things were created from the beginning? It has been said in the Bible that we are the offspring of God. " For in Him we live and move and have our being, as certain also of your own poets have said, for we are also his offspring." (Acts 17:28) Jesus told us, "At that day ye shall know that I am in the Father, and ye in me, and I in you." (John 14:20) Therefore is it so strange to think that we too are as God, even extensions of God? Would it be so preposterous to think that as we evolve, so does God?

Are we so unlike the caterpillar or the baby chick? Even in our own observation of everything in our physical world, do we not see the similes that reflect the harmonious laws of God? If God is a being of order, would it not be reasonable to think that the Cosmic laws would be inclusive and expanding, not man made laws that exclude and shut out, coming from a basis of fear? Do we not see the symbol of our journey through our own physical birth, moving from the womb, to the struggle through the birth canal, to our carefully prepared emergence into the physical plane? Do we see our own cycle of creation through our continual expansion in life? Just because some have not yet remembered our life before this experience here on the material plane, does not mean there was no preparation or expanding that brought us up to this point. Upon pondering this point, it raises the question, "So why should life stop expanding now?" Has life ever just stopped expanding? Is there an end to progression? I think not. The questions that come after these realizations come naturally, leading us to open ourselves to new and wondrous thoughts, for we begin to sense that there is truly more to the story of heaven, earth, and death.

We are like the leaf of the tree, drawing our expansion through the earth in a continuous cycle, being a part of everything, yet focused in a specific purpose of our choice from thought. Reaching upward the tree acts as an extension of the earth, that great being from which it came, and the leaf is the extension of the tree, yet all are a part of the same being, extending itself in oneness, for further expansion through the joyous cycle of life. Even in death the fallen leaf returns to the whole, which in truth it was never separated from, and again begins a new expansive cycle of life.

Have we not yet to fly and continue our expansion as well? I see no end, no finality. I see expansion in our mighty beings, potential yet untapped, spaces unexplored, thoughts yet unimagined, possibilities yet to attain. I see the quivering nucleus of a single thought that I deliberately think as it builds in crescendo through the Cosmos, reasoning, creating through order and harmony in waves of living light that resonate in harmonious vibration, expanding and joyously dancing through the songs of colors yet unknown.

Every day I try to think a thought I have not yet thought before. Looking back in my present life cycle I can see my personal evolution and see with expanding clarity the experiences I have lived and the role that each life drama has played in my life to create the powerful desires which have burst from my being. I see my connection to my true self, and in knowing who I am, I unlock treasures untold from within. Mystery is only hidden knowledge attainable to any who keeps their eye on the goal. Long have I sought for wisdom, knowing no place of ending, for I know that before me is the ever receding goal that I seek to attain. Truth is expansion and it seems that even infinity is moving onto some unthinkable end. Therefore, I AM, forever and ever, expanding, creating, and I am here in this eternal now moment, loving the feeling that fulfills me as I bask in the sweet appreciation that I know this. I believe I will ever aspire in the delicious yearning for that something out there that is yet unknown to me, yet somewhere inside I will know that it is out there somewhere, even if I create it myself. Knowing this, I feel the eternal spark in my being that whispers that I am yet something more.

"It is given unto you to know the Mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but unto them it is not given. Therefore, speak I to them in parables; because they seeing, see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear." (Mathew 13: 11,13,16)
